And that feels so rough

This song has really grabbed in a way that not many songs have done recently. That kind of way when you must listen to it over and over until you know every word and have the tune in your head for days.

I saw Gotye at Splendour in the Grass a few years back and he was truly amazing, that voice, the haunting music and the honest lyrics. I wish I was going to see him at this years splendour, but unfortunately it was just too expensive for me this time. So instead I am making a Splendour playlist with all the sings I have by the artists who are attending and I will have my own little festival - one with no crowds, cheap drinks and no mud!

Kimbra is another Aussie who I am keeping an eye on. Her voice is beautiful, I think I might go and download a few songs and see how that goes!

What is your favourite song right now? What song(s) have you felt the need to play over and over again?

Nailed - State of Origin

As a born and bred New South Wales-ian it is my sworn duty to do all I can to support my team in tonights third and final State of Origin match. Usually, this would mean dressing top-to-toe in every article of blue clothing I own, but as the expected temperature tonight is somewhere around the -3 to -5 degrees mark I have decided to show support in a way that does not compromise my body warmth - Nails!

Below is a (pretty dodgy) picture of my Cockroach inspired mani. Only time will tell if I will keep this on for longer than one night - fingers crossed I get to keep it for a few days at least!

 (With Flash)
Base Colour
OPI - Ski Teal We Drop
Top Coat
OPI - Last Friday Night (Katy Perry Collection)

(Without Flash - apologies for the shadows)

I really love this look! It is really hard to get a good photo as the colour changes with the light, the real life colour is somewhere between the two pics above. The base colour is one that I wear quite often with OPI Black Shatter over the top for a dark look that still has a bit of character. This top coat is really beautiful as well, although when I bought it I was hoping it would be nice to wear alone, but despite how it looks in the bottle it really is very sheer. I think it is best suited as a top coat, what do you think?

Who are you going for in the State of Origin tonight? What are you doing to show your allegiance?

Bunny-bun bun buns!

My whole life all I had wanted a pet bunny rabbit, but Queensland's archaic pet ownership laws always meant  that I was just not able to keep one. When a job opportunity came up for the boy in New South Wales and it started looking like I was going to join him, my very first thought was that I would be able to finally get a pet bunny!

In my first week in the new town the stars aligned and I met someone who was looking for a new home for her two New Zealand white rabbits. After a few trips backwards and forwards the new additions arrived and have been living happily with me ever since!

'The buns' as they are affectionately known did not have names until they came to me, so the boy and I have named them Fraidy (as she was scared of us the first time we met) and Cream (which we thought would go nicely with her surname, bun). They are so cute an playful and I am so glad that I have them to keep me company.

They really are the best of friends, so cute!

Probably my favourite pic, this is Cream Bun in her tunnel.

BRIGHT white!

Their hutch, aka The Bun Mahal.

What pet did you always dream of having? What pet (or pets) do you have now?

Petal

And so it begins...

I have been thinking about starting a blog for a while, but until now I have always had a reason not to, like not having enough time and or anything of value to say.

However I have decided to bite the bullet and make a start. That's not to say that I don't still have those reasons not to, it's just that I have decided to ignore them in order to do something for myself.

I guess I'll introduce myself, my name is Petal* and I am a young lady in my mid twenties. I am from the sunny Gold Coast but at the moment I am residing in a small rural town near in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains. I study full time by correspondence and am lucky enough that at the moment I don't need to work, which leaves me to fill my days with study, general house-wifery and the internet.

Here are a few things I love that will inevitably end up featuring here:

  • All kinds of magazines - trashy, fashion, arty etc
  • Nail polish - I usually paint my nails daily, it's become quite the habit
  • Quirky and cute stationery and art
  • My precious pet bunny rabbits, aka 'the buns'
  • Clever and smart marketing and advertising
  • Traveling far and wide
A few things I am not so fond of (and therefore will probably not wind up here, unless in an angsty, ranty kind of way):
  • Rude and judgemental people
  • Poorly executed promotional campaigns
  • Deadlines
  • Any movie that stars Tom Cruise

I hope that you enjoy reading my little blog. I'm not sure how it will evolve over time but sure I hope that you stick around and find out!

Do you have a blog? If so, how did you get started? What tips do you have for a new blogger?

Xx

Petal

*Petal is not actually my really name (although I am very jealous of Jamie Oliver's little girl who is lucky enough to have that honour!) but for now lets just pretend it is.
